Hiroshi Sugimoto’s photography beautifies U2’s latest CD

This image from Hiroshi Sugimoto’s “Seascape” series graces the cover of “No Line on the Horizon,” U2’s latest release:

Not only is there no line on the horizon, there’s no text on this cover; you’re looking at the actual CD cover. This is a powerful tribute to the minimalist power of Sugimoto’s work.

I find little correspondence between Sugimoto’s art and the music on this release, however. Don’t look for any spacious ballads or introspective serenades on this release. This is Bono crooning and The Edge strumming with all their might from start to finish.

Thanks for introducing me to this. I love Hiroshi’s work. I did not know about this photographer before. I just saw something about an award given to the exhibit at the De Young in a magazine right after I saw this post. Doesn’t look like it is there anymore though. Thanks for making me aware of this amazing work.
